“What was I thinking!”

When you make this tiny adjustment in your thought you will exponentially improve your results!!!

What do you find yourself thinking about after seeing and reading these words?  Say the statement, “What was I thinking!”.  A feeling begins to grow within.    You may begin to imagine something you did that made you say those words.   You may now begin to wonder what life lesson was learned from a great mistake that I am now going to reveal to you.   As you are sit there in front of your screen and begin to feel that sensation growing, it may be; a pit in your stomach, your heart skipping a beat, a feeling of dread, a sense of startle and anxiety.   You anticipate that you will be able to sympathize, commiserate with me, share in my experience and learn from my mistake.   These feelings and responses are typical and they create … typical results.  But you, like me, want more!  Don’t you? Before you is the answer to creating your Optimal Reality you only need to reach out and peel back the curtain to find it.

We have been taught to generally adopt a cognitive bias to think that if we notice what we do wrong we will be able to correct it and then do right?  Unfortunately this logic doesn’t hold up, and when it works, it is the most inefficient and ineffective way to generate results and achieve good outcomes.  It stifles creativity and limits solutions.  While it sounds good, it comes from standing in the wrong position.

I come with a background of working with animals.  Training dogs and horses among other things.  The fastest way to get results is to encourage new behaviors and reward those which you desire which in turn get repeated more often.  As you move forward you can refine the behavior, add new elements and you become aware of more nuances and more possibilities.  If you punish an undesired behavior the animal will stop producing behaviors spontaneously and shutdown.  Although you may succeed in preventing the undesired behavior from occurring as frequently, no real learning takes place, unpredictable results occur, creativity is discouraged, and progress slows.   The reality in animal training is that rewarded behaviors occur more frequently and ignored behaviors subside.  A form of communication and rapport is created with the animal when a consistent cause and effect reward system is established.

Even as we are self aware, we are still animals.   Your mind will answer the questions you ask. Why not put it to productive use!  Focusing on what you did wrong will not move you in the right direction.  Instead ask yourself, “What was I thinking?” when you; do something amazing, surprise yourself with a success that you didn’t think was possible, feel that you got lucky, or even feel good for no reason at all.  Your life will begin to change for the positive as you take notice and reward your own desired behaviors.  You will begin to understand that your thoughts create your results and the quality of your thoughts dictate the quality of your outcomes.  Upgrade your mental software today! It’s your choice!

Test this for yourself and tell me what you think.
